We will get up quite early to explore this imposing park and its woodlands, looking for wildlife and photographic opportunities. The pristine Tepuhueico woodlands are part of the unique ecosystem known as Valdivian Temperate Rainforest. Tepuhueico has the reputation of being a reliable place to see the critically endangered Chilean endemic Darwin's Fox; a few hundred individuals of this fox survive in the ecotone between the dense temperate forests and the coast.

We will have interesting walks in search of Pudu Deer (the second smallest deer in the world) and the Kodkod or Guigna (a very rare woodland cat). While searching for this array of enigmatic and poorly known mammals, we will find several endemic birds of the Patagonian woodlands such as Black-throated Huet-huet, Chucao, Ochre-flanked and Magellanic tapaculos, Patagonian Tyrant, Des Murs Wiretail, Chilean Pigeon, Magellanic Woodpecker, Chilean Hawk and Green-backed Firecrown.

Tepuhueico Park not only offers pristine woodlands, but it also features a stunning coastline. Today we'll explore and enjoy that part of the private reserve. Easy hikes will bring us to gorgeous viewpoints, over impressive sand dunes and through native bush and forest areas. We're likely to see birds such as Ochre-flanked Tapaculo, Chucao Tapaculos, Black-throated Huet-huet or Des Murs's Wiretail.

The Pacific Ocean hosts Magellanic Penguins, Peale's Dolphins and with luck we might even spot a Southern right whale. The vegetation is very diverse, too. There are countless bushes of Berberis microphylla (commonly known as "Calafate"), Gunnera tinctoria (Giant rhubarb), Fragaria chiloensis (Beach strawberry) and typical tree species of the Valdivian temperate rain forest, to name just a few of them.

Today we will explore the cultural heart of the Chiloé Archipelago, visiting some of its most iconic villages, traditional markets, and historic wooden churches. Our first stop will be Chonchi, often referred to as the "City of Three Floors" due to its picturesque hillside setting overlooking the inland sea. We will stroll through its charming streets and visit the beautiful Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario, one of the sixteen UNESCO World Heritage Churches of Chiloé.

Continuing north, we will reach Dalcahue, a vibrant waterfront town renowned for its traditional handicraft market, where local artisans display woolen textiles, wooden crafts, and other products reflecting the island's rich cultural heritage. From here, we will cross by ferry to Quinchao Island, enjoying views of the surrounding channels and seabirds along the way. On Quinchao Island we will visit the villages of Curaco de Vélez and Achao, home to some of the finest examples of Chilote wooden architecture. In Achao, we will visit the Iglesia Santa María de Loreto, considered one of the oldest wooden churches in South America and a remarkable example of the craftsmanship that characterizes the archipelago.

In the morning, we will take a private boat trip on the Chepu River. We will navigate upstream on the meandering, branched, and slowly flowing waters. The shoreline is covered with lush, green vegetation, offering good chances to see the ringed kingfisher, herons, and egrets. The main focus, however, will be on finding the Southern River Otter. This endangered otter species lives in rivers as well as in marine environments, and depends on dense vegetation providing it with shelter and cover.

After lunch, we'll drive to the little fishermen's cove of Puñihuil, where we'll board another boat to the nearby islets. These islets are home to several species of seabirds and marine waterfowl, such as the rock cormorant, kelp goose, and flightless steamer duck, and especially, the only known mixed breeding colony of both Humboldt and Magellanic penguins. Marine mammals such as the South American Sea Lion are regular visitors here as well, and with some luck, we may even spot a Southern Marine Otter.

Transfer to Castro airport for your connecting flight to Santiago. End of the trip.
